Who he is

Lawnmower Man drives a ride-on mower, and he is the most destructive character in the game. The shredding blades under the mower destroy objects and characters that pass beneath them.

That single mechanic makes him structurally different from the rest of the roster. Everybody else avoids hazards. He eats them.

What he can do

  • Jumps. The mower has a jump, which is unusual for a vehicle this heavy.
  • Shreds on contact. Anything under the blades is destroyed, including fruit, bodies and — as one achievement confirms — the driver’s own head under the wrong circumstances.

Strengths

  • He removes obstacles permanently. On levels built around objects and NPCs, no other character compares.
  • Heavy and durable. The mower shrugs off impacts that flip lighter vehicles.
  • He is the answer to a specific achievement block. Four of the 80 achievements require mowing 100 torsos, 100 fruits, 100 brains and your own head.

Weaknesses

  • He is very slow. This is the character’s defining cost and it is not a minor one.
  • He is large. The mower does not fit comfortably through tight geometry.
  • No speed or vertical ability. The jump is short and there is nothing to compensate.
  • Speed is how levels punish you, and he has none to spend.

How to actually play him

  1. Pick him for object-heavy levels, not geometry-heavy ones. That is where the blades earn their keep.
  2. Drive into problems. Mowing a hazard is faster than routing around it, when the hazard is mowable.
  3. Respect the tight spaces. A corridor built for a Segway will stop the mower entirely.
  4. Do the mowing achievements deliberately. A purpose-built community level with fruit and bodies laid out in a line will clear all four in minutes.

Achievements connected to him

  • I Had a Job To Do — beat three featured levels with Lawnmower Man.
  • Wrong Tool for the Job — mow 100 torsos.
  • Smoothie Deluxe — mow 100 fruits.
  • Voracious — mow 100 brains.
  • User Error — mow your own head.
