Who he is

Pogostick Man rides a pogo stick, wearing knee and elbow pads. He is one of the later additions to the roster and one of the most mechanically distinct: where most characters move across a level, he moves through it in arcs.

Community sources credit his voice to a well-known YouTuber from the game’s video era, which is a nice piece of trivia about how tightly the game’s community and its creators were linked. We list it as community-sourced, because no official credit confirms it.

What he can do

The pogo stick gives him the highest bounce and the longest hang time in the game. Pressing or holding the ability key extends and increases the bounce.

He can also roll, which is the closest thing he has to normal movement.

The catch

You cannot stop bouncing. That is the entire character. There is no neutral state where you stand still and read the level, which means:

  • planning has to happen mid-air;
  • a hazard you did not see before you launched is a hazard you cannot avoid;
  • precision platforming is significantly harder than with any wheeled character.

Against that, on levels designed for a pogo stick, he is the only character who makes sense.

Strengths

  • Vertical reach. He clears height that nothing except flight can reach.
  • Hang time. The long arc gives unusual mid-air control opportunities.
  • Survivability. He is more robust than the fragile wheeled characters, in the community’s assessment.
  • Speed over rough ground. Rolling and bouncing covers broken terrain well.

Weaknesses

  • No control over when you land.
  • Bad on tight geometry. A ceiling is a death sentence.
  • Poor on precision routes.
  • Level dependent — he is either the right answer or the wrong one.

How to actually play him

  1. Read the level from the air. Use the hang time to look ahead, because you cannot stop to look.
  2. Aim your bounces. Direction control is the skill; height is easy.
  3. Avoid indoor sections. Any level with a low roof is a bad matchup.
  4. Chain bounces. Consecutive bounces build and maintain momentum better than resetting.

Achievements connected to him

  • I Cannot Make Friends — beat three featured levels with Pogostick Man.
  • Lonely at the Top — pogo 10 metres high. This is his signature unlock and it requires genuinely understanding the bounce.
